This course allows Students to study economic, social and environmental issue faced especially by environment professionals. It introduces theoretical ideas about the urban growth and transformation in different areas. Students explore contemporary processes of urban metamorphosis in Hungarian cities. They evaluate the impact of economic, social, political and environmental pressures on reshaping urban areas.

  Introduction
The summer course is a fruitful cooperation between the Szent István University, Faculty of Landscape Architecture, in Budapest and the Ain Shams University, Landscape Architecture program, in Cairo.

The applicants will get a 3 credit transfer hours with the European system ECTS, by which the applicant can transfer the course to any European university. The course is part of the agreement between the partner universities.

The course deals with architecture that is designed based on local needs, availability of construction materials and reflecting local traditions. Originally vernacular and landscape architecture relied on the design skills and tradition of local builders. However, since the late 19th century many professional architects have worked in versions of this style. It tends to evolve over time to reflect the environmental, cultural, technological, economic, and historical context.

This kind of architecture still plays a role in architecture and design, especially in local branches. Vernacular and Landscape architecture can be contrasted against polite architecture which is characterized by stylistic elements of design intentionally incorporated for aesthetic purposes which go beyond a building's functional requirements.
