From 19th to 25th of August 2018.

The workshop deals with the notions of sustainability and building construction techniques used to realize sustainability. By the end of the workshop the applicants will be able to analyze any project location with sustainability concepts to design and produce sustainable projects using new building materials and techniques. 

The workshop will include a special visit to an existing project which won the fifth prize in the international competition of Solar Decathlon, ODOO Project in Budapest. The final product of the workshop will be a Maquette of scale 1:20 for a house applying sustainability principles with sustainable materials, using passive and active environmental strategies and techniques. 

  Introduction

The workshop course is a fruitful cooperation between the Budapest University for Technology and Economics, Faculty of Architecture, Department of Building Constructions, and the Knowledge Transfer Network for International Scholars - KTNIS, the workshop will be under the supervision of Prof. Fülöp Zsuzsanna. 

Since the turn of the new millennium sustainability and environmental issues got more attention because of the misuse of resources, trying to find solutions to the general deterioration of living quality of life. Also, finding smart solutions to sustain the remaining resources for future generations, thus using new techniques and materials to build sustainable building is the safe exit to maintain the existing situation and trying to apply those techniques to find new renewable energy resources to decrease the negative impacts of construction in the environment. 

Meanwhile, the workshop will introduce the building technologies used in Hungary to apply sustainability principles, by producing a project model which undergoes a special circumstances and precautions of sustainability.  

  Description

Main analysis criteria related to the proposed project:

-        Climate regulations

-        Renewable energy resources

-        Functions, flows, people

-       Contemporary architecture style - buildings (architecture, facades, masses, types etc.)

-        Values and conflicts

-        Economic wise materials

-        Renewal/preservation/design proposals

-        Safety and healthy building

A study/collage of drawings, sketches, photos, thoughts, layouts, maps, texts, designs etc.

  Who can Apply

To be eligible to apply for the summer course of Urban Transformation.

• International applicants with architecture, urban design, urban planning, urban studies, physical planning, arts, economics, social sciences, and geography backgrounds are eligible to apply.
• Have sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction (English language), as we may ask you to submit a proof of language proficiency or to make a phone call interview with the applicant.
• Respect the specific criteria and applicable additions for application process.

  How to Apply

1.    Prepare a clear scanned copy of your valid passport

With at least 10 months validity in advance, and use friendly file format such as, JPEG, PDF, TIFF, etc. with maximum size of 2 Megabytes)

4.     After reviewing your application and attached documents you will receive an email from KTNIS to inform you whether you have been accepted to join the program or not. If you did not hear from us within 1 week, please contact us on ktneurope@gmail.com.

5.     After receiving your acceptance letter from us, proceed with the registration fees payments, please refer to the course fees section.

The fees will be paid after the applicants receive their acceptance letter from the KTNIS.

• Early fees payment (before the call deadline will pay 90 % fees).
• Standard fees payment (till 1 week of the call deadline will pay 100 % fees).
• Late fees payment (till 2 weeks of the call deadline will pay 110 % fees).

Unfortunately, it is not possible to pay in Egyptian Pounds in the moment due to currency rates changings.

• We will contact you to manage the flight tickets booking and confirm the visa appointment, by which you will have to be there with all needed documents.

- In case that KTNIS canceled any event in the announced program, there will be a reasonable repayment.

- Announced dates can be changed (plus or minus 2 days) according to flight tickets reservation, as we try always to find the cheapest offer for flights to our applicants. 

  Accommodation

In Budapest the capital of Hungary

The accommodation will be in the BMF student hostel (see also: http://koll.uni-obuda.hu/index.php?tagkoll=kukac), is located 400 m from the Tram line 4 and 6, also 700 m from the Grand Boulevard and the M3 Corvin-Negyed Metro Stop. The hostel rooms will accommodate from 2 to 4 applicants, the rooms have with private bathrooms and a work desk, with a kitchenette as well. Kitchenware for preparing your own meals can be rented at the reception. Breakfast is available on weekdays with extra fees. Free WiFi access is available in the public areas and rooms as well. Laundry is also included but you will need to buy or bring your own washing powders, please ask the receptionist guy for the laundry room key.

BMF hostel is 1 km from the Keleti Railway Station and from the Arena Plaza Shopping Centre. The Puskás Ferenc Stadion can be found within 1.7 km from the Corvin metro station.

The 8th district of Józsefváros is a great choice for travelers interested in city trips, museums and monuments. This is our guests' favorite part of Budapest, according to independent reviews.

  Course Fees

The total cost of the course is 700 Euros, Including the following,

• Transportation and Transfer inside Hungary.  
• Accommodation for 7 days / 6 nights only (without meals) in Budapest, on the basis of double or triple shared apartment/room with private bathroom.
• University tools and facilities.
• Administration fees and assistance. 
• Hungarian Language Course (Intensive course for beginners).

While the fees do not include,

• Visa costs (Around 100 Euros)
• Return flight tickets
• Travel insurance
• Any extra days of accommodation in Hungary
• Pocket money for Living Costs in Hungary (around 150 Euros)

Furthermore, the applicants have to bring all the needed documents, such as passports, bank statements, proof of registration, and any further documents as needed by the embassy of Hungary in Cairo.

• The registration fees must be paid within 2 weeks from the call deadline.
• Supervisors are more than welcome to accompany 10 applicants or more from the same institution (for more details please contact us).
• Please notice that we will endeavor to assist you in obtaining the visa from the responsible embassy, by sending an acceptance letter, but the responsibility is yours and the decision rests solely with the appropriate Embassy.
• Applicants, who are under 21 years old, must submit parents’ acknowledgment form.
• In case that KTNIS canceled any event in the announced program, there will be a reasonable repayment.
• Applicants must attend 75 % from the event in order to receive a certificate of participation.
• Applicants must not leave the event’s city 1 day in advance before the date of departure.

  Offers

Gladly, KTNIS gives offers for the applicants who are participating in any events according to the following:

1. Applicants from academic staff will get 10 % fees discount.
2. Applicants who participate for the second time will get 20 % fees discount.
3. Applicants who participate for the third time will get 30 % fees discount.
4. Applicants who applies for 2 consequent 1 week workshop will get a special discount ONLY 950 Euros for both workshops instead of 1250 Euros. 

  Cancellations and refund

Applicants who would like to cancel their participation in any of the KTNIS events will be as following:

• Early cancellation (before the call deadline will get 100 % fees back).
• Standard cancellation (till 2 weeks of the call deadline will receive a refund of minus 20 % ).
• Late cancellation (More than 2 weeks after the call deadline there will be no fees refund).
